Perhaps the most overwhelming category of products to switch in your regular routine when adopting a zero waste lifestyle are your skincare products. It isn’t enough to just find skincare products that are zero waste; they also need to work for your skin type. Skin care items can be some of the most expensive products we buy, so they need to be worth the expense and you need to feel good when you use them.
If you’re looking for inspiration on what zero waste skincare products to try first, make sure you give this post a read.
Juicing Just Got Easy with Superfood Cleanser
YOUTH TO THE PEOPLE Superfood Antioxidant Cleanser is formulated with kale, spinach, green tea, alfalfa, vitamins C, E, and K for a dose of cold-pressed antioxidants each day. The cleanser pours out in a thicker gel consistency and when rubbed on the face creates a rich, thick lather that feels really smooth. It feels thick enough to remove make up and cleanse pores, but rinses off fairly easily. After patting face dry it leaves my skin feeling fresh and soft.
Superfood Antioxidant Cleanser is a 2018 winner of the GQ Magazine Best Stuff Award and is certified Clean at Sephora. It comes in a glass jar that is easily recycled. (Don’t forget to rinse first).

Get The Nitty Gritty with LUSH Coalface Cleanser Bar
LUSH Coalface Charcoal Cleanser is another naked (no packaging) bar of facial cleansing goodness. This bar is mattifying, so it is ideal for those with oily or combination skin that may have some oily areas. It comes wrapped in recyclable paper and ready to use.
Simply wet face and the bar, rub between (clean) hands to produce a little lather. Massage face with hands in a circular, outward motion and massage into skin.
The lather feels really luxurious, but very light and fresh. Rinse face with warm water and pat dry. Ta-da! You’ve got yourself a fresh face that should feel soft but dry. Follow up with your regular moisturizing routine.
Raise the Bar: The Zero Waste Cleansing Bar, That Is
The Ethique In Your Face, Eco-Friendly Face Cleansing Bar is an Amazon’s Choice and a zero waste skincare product. Specially formulated for oily or acne-prone skin, this cleanser is soap free, pH balanced, and includes orange oil and New Zealand sea salt to mimic the effects of sea water on your face without drying out your skin.
Ethique’s mission is to prevent plastic from entering the ocean by producing beauty products that are plastic free, zero waste, and have compostable packaging. So make sure to throw that package in the compost bin when you’re done and order another zero plastic cleanser when you’re through.
The Power of Plants: Herbivore Moisture Oil
Herbivore Emerald Deep Moisture Glow Oil is a seriously hydrating hemp seed face oil. I prefer to use it in the evening before bed. Herbivore suggests dropping between 2 – 8 drops of product on your face from the dropper (I usually use about five) before smoothing it into your skin with your (clean!) fingertips. (Hot tip: This is the perfect opportunity to try out a jade or rose quartz roller with your hydrating face oil for healthy skin and relaxation benefits).
Hemp seed oil is full of omega fatty acids, gamma linolenic acids, and vitamin E, making it super nourishing and very hydrating. (Emerald Deep Moisture Glow Oil does not contain THC or CBD). When you have finished the product remember to clean the glass thoroughly before recycling.

You & Your Skin = Honeymoon Goals
This is one of my best skincare finds to date: Farmacy Honeymoon Glow AHA resurfacing night serum. This serum does everything: helps reduce the appearance of pores, fine lines, and wrinkles, hydrates and moisturizes, targets hyperpigmentation, and exfoliates dead skin cells. Farmacy recommends application 2 – 3 nights a week when you begin using the product as it does take a little getting used to.
The 14% AHA/BHA/flower acid blend does tingle and/or feel a little warm on the skin the first few times you use it, but your skin will quickly get used to the sensation and after a week or two you won’t feel it anymore. Once your skin has better tolerance of the serum you may increase frequency of use.
Farmacy also infuses their proprietary honey blend into Honeymoon Glow which means you’re getting both moisture and antioxidants. Once you’ve used all your product remember to wash the glass bottle out and peel off the label before recycling.
