How To Make Vinegar All Purpose Cleaner

There are a few different ways you can make a simple homemade all purpose cleaner.

The biggest difference between them is what you choose as your primary cleaning ingredient.  There are all sorts of All purpose cleaner recipes out there that use everything from Borax to castle soap.

I find that more often than not a simple vinegar and water solution is more than up to the task!  It seems like there are almost endless uses for vinegar around the home.

Here’s how to use vinegar to make a handy dandy diy all purpose cleaner!  This all purpose cleaner works great for tackling all sorts of jobs from kitchen cleaning, to bathrooms, and pet messes.

All purpose Cleaning Spray Ingredients

To make this diy all purpose cleaner you’ll only need a few basic ingredients:

• Water
• Vinegar
• Essential Oils
• Spray Bottle
• Funnel (optional, but it sure makes it easier!)

Add Water

For my homemade cleaning spray I like to use a ratio of 2:1.  Measure out 2 cups of water and pour it into your spray bottle of choice.

I typically use hot water. In my experience this seems to help the ingredients to mix together more evenly.

Add Vinegar

Now measure out 1 cup of white vinegar and pour it into your container as well.  

The vinegar is what will be doing the heavy lifting as the cleaning agent in this recipe.  Vinegar is a mild human and pet friendly acid making it a perfect choice for cleaning in your home!

Add Essential Oils

Pour 10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil into the bottle.  Personally I love Pine and Peppermint Essential oils together.  

In this batch of cleaning spray I added 10 drops of peppermint essential oil and 5 drops of pine for a fresh woods smell I love.

You can ditch the funnel at this point. I tried using the funnel once and about a third of the essential oils ended up sticking to the funnel. Adding the oils straight into the bottle is a bit easier.

Mixy mix time

Put the spray top on the bottle and shake, jostle, oscillate, or whatever your preferred method of mixing is.  

After that you’re good to go, you’ve got yourself a handy dandy bottle of homemade vinegar all purpose cleaner that doesn’t smell like the perfumed bottles of chemical spray you can find in a typical grocery store.

How Does This All Purpose Cleaner Work?

This all purpose cleaner works great for me.  It’s my go to general purpose cleaner and I tend to use it on a daily basis with consistently pleasing results!  

I use it for a back up when I run out of my pet mess cleaning spray as well as for general cleaning in the kitchen, bathroom, and all over the rest of the house as needed.  

If I run across a particularly difficult mess to clean up I will spray on my all purpose cleaner and let it soak in for a minute or two before wiping or scrubbing the mess up.
