Do Alpaca Dryer Balls Work & How to Use Them

If you are looking for an all-natural alternative to chemically dryer sheets then look no further! Alpaca dryer balls are great for getting your laundry dried fast and, with essential oils, can make your laundry smell fresh and clean without artificial scents!

Do wool dryer balls work?

Yes, alpaca dryer balls really do work! Dryer balls work very well and speed up drying time by up to 25%. They help to wick moisture away from clothing while separating fabric in the dryer for more efficient tumble drying and faster drying time.

How do you use alpaca dryer balls?

For best results add 3 alpaca dryer balls to each load of laundry that you are drying and run the load as you normally would.

Inside the dryer the alpaca dryer balls will get in between your clothes and help to separate them as they tumble helping heat to evaporate and dry your clothes faster.

As you get more familiar with using your dryer balls and how speed up your drying times you’ll be able to decrease your total drying time and save some electricity. Ultimately, drying times can be decreased by up to 25% which is a huge savings in time and money!

Are Alpaca Dryer Balls Better than Wool Dryer Balls

I think the Alpaca dryer balls look way better than the wool dryer balls.

They are also much more dense than the sheep’s wool dryer balls making them better at separating fabric in the dryer.

Alpaca dryer balls are better than sheep’s wool dryer balls if you have extremely sensitive skin. Wool contains lanolin which can very rarely cause skin irritation.

In general, Alpaca fleece reacts to water differently than sheep’s wool. Sheep’s wool will tend to soak up and absorb moisture during the drying process pulling it away from your clothes and helping them to dry faster.

Alpaca fleece, on the other hand, doesn’t absorb water but it does help to wick and pull water away from your clothes achieving a very similar effect.

Why Use Alpaca Wool Dryer Balls

Environmentally Friendly

Alpaca wool is an awesome environmentally friendly alternative to plastic and other artificial materials. And they don’t have any other the chemicals or artificial scents that dryers sheets typically have.

Hypoallergenic

They are also hypoallergenic making them a great option for those with allergies or sensitive skin.

Save Time & Money

Alpaca wool dryer balls can help to shorten drying time by up to 25% according to the manufacturer Alpacas of Monntana. I have personally had good results with them decreasing drying time. Depending on the type of load from 15% to 20% decrease in drying time.

How Long Do Alpaca Dryer Balls Last?

Alpaca dryer balls will typically last for hundreds of loads and often for more than a thousand loads. So, for a typical family they will likely last for a few years before they need to be replaces.

Alpaca Dryer Balls & Essential Oils

If you’d like to add a little scent to your laundry you can also add a few drops of essential oils to your dryer balls before running them through the dryer.

Some of my favorite essential oils for laundry are Lavender, citrus(lemon, grapefruit, orange), or rosemary if you want something herbal!

If you are new to essential oils, grabbing a good starter set of essential oils from Amazon is a great place to start!

Will Essential Oils Get on Your Clothes?

I’ve never had an issue with this! Just make to start your load right away to avoid the dryer balls sitting directly on your clothes for too long and you should be good to go!

If you are worried about essential oil transfer you can run them in the dryer by themselves before adding clothes to the dryer to help them dry out a bit and disperse the scent and oil before the clothe are added.

Or, you can try wrapping them in a sock, pillowcase, or something similar to provide a barrier between the essential oil and your fabrics.
